The 60s Legacy
Post- War Babies were born into a period of social revolution in the UK which they enthusiastically built upon in the 60s.
Working Class children went off university and then were criticised because they had been educated, questioned anything and everything and so didn’t comply with the ‘done thing’.
Hence it was probably the most incredibly creative Era in the UK since William Morris and the Arts and Crafts Movement.
The Visual Arts saw a break from the traditions of academic painting and the conventions of classical art - It was a period of experimentation and exploration featuring various motifs and subjects – often mundane ones – but also varying means and methods and not always traditional art materials.
